Road trip

Tonight we head up to Taupo (toe-pour!) for a couple of nights. We are mostly going up to see Michelle do a parachute jump for her birthday. I think she's mad. It's also a good opportunity to do lots of EXCITING stuff in Taupo!!

I need ideas though. So far we have only got a few things on our list, namely:
1 Swim at AC Baths (preferably at night)
2 Do tourist shots at Huka Falls, whilst faking German accents
3 Craters of the Moon

What else can we do? I can see us just sitting round the pool at the Motel, drinking copious amounts of alcohol if we don't have enough to do. Not that THAT sounds too bad...

Anyway, comments please!

There is the Honey place on the right before craters of the moon, theres also an Earthquake/Volcano centre there too and you could also go out to Orakei Korako - The Hidden Valley - On the road to Tokora (Pink terraces, steaming mud and stuff...)The mini golf in Taupo is the bomb! And they have a bowling Alley in Taupo if you get super stuck!!! We up the mountain this weekend, may see you on the road??

There's some nice walks in National Park - I recommend the walk around lake Rotopounamu if it's a clear still day, and the walk to Taranaki Falls is good - both on the Whakapapa side of the mountains.

Alternatively if you're *really* bored, you could go on a tour of the Tokaanu power station - Genesis Energy does guided tours if you ring them. :-)

Or there's that little thermal walk at Tokaanu, or going white water rafting or kayaking on the Tongariro River. Or doing the boat trip out to the Maori carvings on the rock.

I guess I've had too many holidays in Taupo.

Orakei Korako is mass expensive, but lovely. We did it about a year ago so no need to go there this time I think.

Tokaanu - we ALWAYS stop there for a swim! About time we did one of the walks round there...

If we have time, I'd like to get out on the lake - maybe catch a fish!!

And pose for photos next to the signs saying "no.1 discharge" and "no.2 suction"...

i am not a taupo fan even though it is littered with family history.

last time i went i went to wairakei terraces... lots of half naked men offering to swim in the honeymoon hot pools with me. even though they were paid to say that, and they certainly wouldn't have followed through, it was quite charming.

i also went to a giant greenhouse where they grow tomatoes. it was very warm.

then i spent the rest of my time in a bar somewhere on one of the mainstreets drinking lots of liquor and challenging old men to karaoke competitions. actually, DO THAT. it was fun.

Damn. I didn't read this in time.

There's the prawn farm and the falls jet and the funny golf challenge.

he he he :) You could just drive towards Ohakune and drink there... Always a town full of entertainment.

Me and Cass and Ange know some 'fun' things to do there.

Firsly, go to Taupo via Pipiriki (stopping in to have a cup of tea with Uncle Bob).... then have your accomodation booking stuff up and be homeless for a few hours.... then crash at someone's Mum's friend (who she hasn't seen for about 20 years)....

Then do a triathlon!
